Rajput of Kather ( old name of Rohilkhand) they we're Migrated from different places of Vanaras and hardoi Katheriyas belong to the Nikumbh Clan they established themselves in kather about 1174. Raja Bhimsen whose Migrated from Vanaras and Raja hari singh & Raja Khadag Singh also Migrated from Tiruth bihar who expelled Ahirs & bhumihar from ahikshetra (bareilly Anola shahjahanpur ) and settled down here in Shajhanpur and anola He established his capital Kath gola ( Old Name of shahjahanpur). their descendants are called to be Katheriyas . Gaur rajput Allied with Katheriya rajputs ruled in powayan Zamindari and kuthar (Katheriya Zamindari). Once bhim sen's son visited to Delhi, Uncle of prthiviraj chauhan Vigharaja Chauhan Killed his son in Delhi court . Kesari singh Katheriya grandson of raja bhimsen become king of kather after his father's death he declared war against prthiviraj chauhan , Chauhan sent a army against Katheriyas which was defeated by Katheriyas . Due to this clash Kesari singh build up a alliance with Kannauj , Kesari singh got place in Maharaja Jaychand's Court. From 648 to 720 AD (after the fall of Kannauj). Katheriyas established the capital here in Ramnagar village near Ahishkhetra(Bareilly) and made the military camp in the elevated village Hazayagao. The area was ruled by Hansdev who remained as the undefeated king, after his death his son Hansbedh became the king of this region until 816 AD. In the same dynasty, King Ramshukh (Raja Ram Singh Katheriya ) also ruled in this region and modified the village into a beautiful city and established it as Rampur.which was the capital of Kather-Rohilkhand province in 909 AD. Raja Ram Singh invaded tarai and captured whole tarai region by defeating Baz bahadur chand's army, after his defeat baz bahadur chand went to mughal court for help to defeat Raja Ram Singh Katheriya , so Shah-Jahan sent his commander rustam khan & Army along with baz bahadur chand . Combined forces of Chand army & mughal army fought against Raja Ram Singh where they killed raja of rampur cause some people's of Raja Ram Singh betrayed with him. And another Heretic destroyer King Ranveer Singh Katheriya was born in the same dynasty . Another ruler Jagat Singh Katheriya founded a village called Jagatpur during the year 1500. In 1537, his two sons Bas Deo and Barel Deo were responsible for finding Bareilly. The place was named after the two brothers as Bans Bareilly.Narpat singh raja of katiyari hardoi established his capital in kathgarh Moradabad . 

The rule of Rajputs was brought down by the Delhi sultanate at the beginning of 13th century. The kingdom of Katheriyas was divided by the Mughals into two provinces namely Sambhal and Budaun. Mughal emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir, in order to suppress the Rajput rebellions, awarded the region Katehr to the Rohillas, who were the Pashtun highlanders of the Yousafzai tribes from Pakistan. The Katheriya Rajputs fought for about 400 years with the rulers of Delhi and later with Mughals. They fought with Naseeruddin Mahmood in 1253, Gaisuddin Balwan in 1256, Jalaluddin Firoz in 1290, Firoj Shah in 1379 & Sikander Lodhi in 1494.

At the beginning of the sixteenth century, the Katheria king Mitrasen greatly increased his power and built a fort at Lakhnaur (later called Shahabad). Sher Shah Suri, his successor Islam Shah and Akbar In the initial years of the rule, Mitrasen became the subedar of Sambhal province. According to historian Abul Fazal, in the fifth year of Akbar's accession to the throne, Sikandar Khan's son and Ghazi Khan revolted against Akbar in which King Mitrasen also joined the rebels. Sadiq Khan suppressed the rebellion.

Bareilly was the headquarters of Rohilkhand region during the first revolt of Independence against the British in the May of 1857. Back then, the combined force Rohila Pathan & Rajputs of the region led a aggressive rebellion against British. Thakur Roshan singh one of the biggest freedom fighter, He belongs to Katheriya Rajput Family.
